A total of 29 participants took part in the Malaysian Youth Bioinformatics Symposium 5.0 on 19 August 2023 at the Melaka campus. The participants came from different universities and institutions, including MMU, UCSI University, Universiti Malaya, INTI International University, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Monash University, and FGV R&D.

Organised by the Bioinformatics degree students with the help of their lecturers, this one-day event featured two speakers, namely Prof. Dr. Chan Kok Gan from Universiti Malaya and Dr. Ong Ai Ling from Sime Darby Plantation Technology Centre. The speakers shared their knowledge and experiences in the bioinformatics area. The event attendees were also guided through the software and programming used in the field.

The participants also underwent two workshops, which were conducted by Ts. Dr. Lim Kian Ming, our academic staff from the Faculty of Information Science and Technology (FIST), and Ms. Siti Dalila Muaz from Sime Darby Plantation Technology Centre. The event sponsor, Codon Genomics, was also present and opened up a booth during the event. All in all, the event concluded successfully with the closing ceremony. It is hoped that this symposium will provide new perspectives and input on bioinformatics.
