Inspiring Career Journey by CIMB at Cyberjaya Campus

On 30 April 2024, 69 students from diverse faculties at the Cyberjaya campus participated in an engaging event with CIMB. Jointly organised by Career Connect, the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), and CIMB, the program provided students with invaluable insights into career opportunities and recruitment within the company. CIMB representatives highlighted the array of programs available through CIMB’s Graduate Programme, including scholarships, internships, and the prestigious “Complete Banker” track, offering attendees a clear pathway to a rewarding career in the financial industry. 

The event also featured an exhilarating Scavenger Hunt, challenging participants to collaborate, navigate obstacles, and solve clues, fostering teamwork and trust among team members. The CIMB event at Cyberjaya campus left students energised and motivated, ready to pursue their career goals with newfound confidence. This impactful programme will continue at the Melaka campus on 29 May 2024. 

Accounting Students Empowered at ‘Learning to Soar for Success’ Talk”

On 3 May 2024, a group of 32 Diploma in Accounting students from the Faculty of Business (FOB) attended an Industrial Talk titled “What’s Next for You? – Learning to Soar for Success”. This enlightening session was led by Mr. Rozahi Roslan, a seasoned professional specialising in accounting, auditing, and taxation, who shared his wealth of knowledge and experience. His business partners namely Ms. Fadhlina Saad and Ms. Marziani Rashid also shared their experiences with the students. 

As the founder of Rozahi Roslan & Associates (RRA) and RTMA & Associates PLT, Mr. Rozahi holds titles as a Chartered Tax Practitioner and an approved Cooperative Auditor, showcasing his extensive expertise in the field. The talk provided invaluable insights into the diverse career paths available to accounting students post-graduation. The speaker also shared his personal journey, detailing the challenges he faced and the successes he achieved in establishing his own accounting firm. 

  Despite starting with Diploma studies, his perseverance led him to complete his master’s degree ad obtain various professional qualifications. He emphasised the importance of perseverance, a positive attitude, and patience in building a successful career in accounting, highlighting that success takes time. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A session, allowing the attendees to further delve into the topic discussed. The knowledge gained from this session will undoubtedly assist students in preparing early for their entry into the workforce upon graduation. 

Organised by Ms. Siow Yung Ern and Dr. Subhachini Subramaniam, the session was officiated by Mdm. Fathiah Hashim, the programme coordinator for the Diploma in Accounting programme, and Mdm Siti Zarifah, the assistance programme coordinator. The event was also co-organised by students namely Jasmine Ha Xin Yi, Bong Hui Wen and Tan Jing En. 

FET Students Dive into Healthcare Engineering on Industrial Adventure

On 2 May 2024, 20 students from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) embarked on an enlightening industrial visit to Fourier Intelligence Sdn. Bhd., located in Bangsar South, Kuala Lumpur. Facilitated by the Industrial Linkage Committee (ILC) of the faculty, the visit commenced with an engaging industrial talk led by Dr. Leong Chen Onn, Senior Manager, and Mr. Lam Jiang Kai, Senior Service Engineer at Fourier Intelligence. The session, titled “Future Prospects of Engineers in Healthcare,” shed light on the burgeoning job opportunities in Healthcare Engineering and emphasised the essential skills necessary to remain competitive in multiple industries. 

Following the informative talk, the session transitioned into an exploration of product and technology, accompanied by hands-on activities. Both of the speakers introduced and demonstrated two rehabilitation machines: the Exomotus M4 and the Armmotus EMU, both integral to the field of physical therapy. Students gained insights into robotic mechanisms, including actuator design and control, as well as the intricacies of human body movement (Degree of Freedom). Additionally, they learned how these machines undergo testing on human subjects to assess their efficacy in aiding body movements. It is anticipated that this industrial visit will provide a gateway for students to delve deeper into the realm of healthcare engineering.  

 

MUBS Champions CSR with Sustainability Talk

Multimedia University (MUBS) has partnered with the Small and Medium Enterprises Association Malaysia (SAMENTA) to organize the Sustainability Talk: ESG Implementation in SME, a transformative event aimed at bridging the gap between theory and practice recently. Featuring industry experts Dr. John Loh, Director of Operations & Sustainability at EPC Sdn. Bhd, and Dr. Flora Anthonysamy, Director of Training and Compliance at Expat Management Pit, the talk delivered invaluable insights into sustainable business practices to the audience. 

Beyond imparting real-time knowledge to MMU students, this workshop serves as a catalyst for meaningful dialogue between corporate entities and the university, paving the way for a sustainable internship ecosystem. By facilitating discussions on internship opportunities with SAMENTA-affiliated businesses, MUBS is actively fostering connections that will benefit both students and businesses alike. This collaboration between MUBS and SAMENTA holds the promise of significant positive impacts, serving as the spark to ignite a fire of collaboration that will shape a greener, more sustainable future.

Infineon Tea Talk Series 2024: Nurturing Tomorrow’s Leaders in Technology

The Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) and the Faculty of Information Science and Technology (FIST) collaboratively organised a dynamic tea-talk session in partnership with Infineon Technologies, tailored specifically for the eager minds of MMU students. This engaging event welcomed directors and illustrious FET alumni namely Ms. Ooi Mei Ling, Mr. Ronald Dass Steven, Mr. Lim Sze Haw and Ms. Tay Wendy from Infineon, who graciously shared their wealth of experiences under the illuminating theme, ‘A Day in the Life of an Automation Project’. Enthusiastic participants, including students immersed in the subject of Project Management from both FET and FIST, absorbed the insights offered during the programme.  

Since the fruitful partnership’s inception in 2009, Infineon has been an excellent supporter of MMU, actively participating in university events orchestrated by various faculties and extending invaluable opportunities to students through career and internship programmes. Their enduring commitment to nurturing talent and fostering collaboration has enriched the university’s academic landscape. In light of this transformative wave, the Infineon team championed awareness, sharing invaluable perspectives on navigating this new frontier of technology with confidence.  

The resounding impact of the session resonated deeply with students, who recognised its immense value in preparing them for the challenges that lie ahead upon their entry into society. Armed with newfound awareness, they stand poised to confront and overcome obstacles on their journey toward professional fulfilment. With great anticipation, MMU eagerly anticipates further collaboration with Infineon Technologies, envisioning a future brimming with boundless opportunities and mutual benefits for the vibrant MMU community. 

 

Obtaining Essential Skills for a Dynamic Career in Automation Engineering

The Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) Alumni Committee recently organised a sharing session specifically tailored for Robotics ad Automation students. The session was conducted by Mr. Lui Poh Wei, an esteemed alumnus who graduated with a Bachelor of Electronics Engineering (Hons) in Robotics and Automation Engineering in 2022, and currently holds the position of Test and Automation Engineer at Texas Instruments Electronics Malaysia, Melaka. 

Attended by approximately 30 students, the session proved to be incredibly insightful and inspiring for all attendees He delved into the realm of automation, emphasising its importance in today’s industrial landscape, and provided a concise overview of the roles and responsibilities of automation and final test engineers. His focus then shifted to the crux of the matter: the requisite skills set for a successful career in Automation Engineering. He highlighted the significance of both soft and hard skills, categorising communication skills and complex problem-solving as essential soft skills, while programming and hardware designing skills fell under the domain of hard skills.  

The speaker also encouraged the students to actively engage and pose thought-provoking questions during the session. He underscored the relevance of the foundational knowledge acquired during undergraduate studies, emphasising the importance of core subjects aligned with one’s chosen career path. For example, he stressed the indispensability of electronics knowledge for aspiring Electronics Engineering professionals. In summary, the session provided an invaluable platform for the engineering students to glean insights into the essential skill sets required for a promising career in Automation Engineering. 

MMU Honoured with Employer’s Choice University (ECU) Award by Talentbank

We are thrilled to announce that Multimedia University (MMU) has been awarded the prestigious Employer’s Choice University (ECU) Award by Talentbank. The award ceremony, held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel Kuala Lumpur, celebrated MMU’s outstanding contributions to education and its consistent production of highly sought-after graduates recognised by leading employers on 2 May 2024. 

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ong Jeen Wei, Director of Alumni, Career Engagements, and Entrepreneurship Development (ACED) had the honour of receiving the award on behalf of the university.  The ECU Award, presented by representatives from esteemed organisations such as Bank Negara Malaysia and Huawei Malaysia, further underscores the significance of MMU’s achievements in shaping the future workforce.

THE Asia Rankings are meticulously curated, considering key performance indicators in teaching, research, citations, international outlook, and industry income. These metrics align with the aspirations of Asian institutions and provide a comprehensive evaluation trusted by students, academics, university leaders, industry professionals, and governments alike.

MMU & O.P. Jindal Global University Forge Academic and Research Alliance

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was inked between Multimedia University (MMU) and O.P. Jindal Global University on 30 April 2024 at the Cyberjaya campus. Signing the pact were Professor Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, President of MMU and Prof. Dr. C. Raj Kumar, Founding Vice-Chancellor of O.P. Jindal Global University.  

This partnership aims to enhance academic collaboration, joint research, matching grants, and other related areas between both institutions, which will bring each university in a better direction in the future. Prof. Ir. Dr. Hairul Azhar Abdul Rashid, Vice President of Market Exploration, Engagement & Touchpoint (MEET), International Collaboration and Engagement, faculty leaders and members also attended the ceremony.  

FCA Students Documentary Featured at VDR International Film Festival

Let us extend our warmest congratulations to Keefe Loh, Gan Zi Xuan, Joshua Christiyan Robert, Heng Pooi Leng and Gan Zi Xuan, our talented Cinematic Arts students, for their recent achievement! Their documentary titled “Waves of Life” was showcased at the prestigious Visions du Réel (VdR) International Film Festival’s in Nyon, Switzerland. This esteemed international documentary film festival, held from 14 until 17 April 2024, provided a platform for their remarkable work to shine.  

Waves of Life” explores the experiences of a fisherman and his family belonging to the Mah Meri indigenous community. Their home is an isolated island close to Pulau Ketam, Selangor, where they confront significant daily challenges. Kamal, a dedicated father, relies on ancestral fishing methods to provide for his family. Despite the obstacles they face, they often travel to a nearby Chinese fishing village to obtain essential and sell seafood. In uncertainty, they grapple with parenthood’s responsibilities while embracing their rustic way of life.  

Through this documentary, the students aimed to shed light on their difficulties and encourage greater understanding of the hardships encountered by this community, whose contributions to Malaysian society often go unnoticed.
