Multimedia University (MMU) through its “Office of Academic Development for Excellence in Programmes and Teaching (ADEPT)” organised IDE4TE X ELITE 2019 on the 1st and 2nd of October 2019 at the Dewan Tun Canselor, Cyberjaya. IDE4TE 2019 was the second IDE4 Teaching and Learning exhibition to showcase the innovation among Government Linked University (GLU) academics as well as other invited participants.
Co-organised by GLU partners; Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) and Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), the theme for this event was “Engaging Learners, Innovating Teaching Environments”. A total of 80 teams of presenters from local and international higher learning institutions as well as schools took part to showcase their innovative teaching strategies which they have been practising in their respective institutions.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr. Ahmad Rafi Mohamed Eshaq, the President of MMU while Prof. Ts. Dr. Neo Mai, the Director of ADEPT gave the welcoming address. Among the guests who came to grace the event were Prof Dato’ Dr Mazliham Mohd. Su’ud, the President of UniKL; Dr. Subarna Sivapalan, the Director of Centre for Excellence in Teaching And Learning of UTP; Dr. Thaharah Hilaluddin, the Director of Teaching & Learning Centre of UNITEN; and Tuan Hj. Roslan Yahaya, the Director of the Centre for Instructional Technology and Curriculum Development (CITC) of UniKL.

Another highlight of the event was having Dato’ Dr. Rahmah Mohamed (CEO, Malaysian Qualifications Agency) and Prof. Dr. Abdul Karim Bin Alias (Director, Centre for Development of Academic Excellence, Universiti Sains Malaysia) to give the keynote speeches. The ceremony ended with award presentations by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd. Su’ud, to the Gold Award winners and also The Best of the Best Award which was won by Dr. Siti Habibah Shafiai and Fatin Nabilah Sabri from UTP with their project entitled “A Service Based Learning Project for Ocean and Coastal Engineering Students: Community Engagement Activities at Teluk Batik, Perak”. While, MMU bagged a total of 15 Gold, 26 Silver and 13 Bronze medals. The event was closed by Prof. Dr. Ho Chin Kuan, Vice President (Academic And Internationalisation) of MMU.

As for ELITE 2019 which was held on the 2nd of October 2019, the international conference gathered 21 paper presentations from enthusiastic academics from both local and international higher education institutions. Presenters had a great time engaging in meaningful academic discourse throughout the conference and were able to share their valuable experiences in innovating education approaches during the networking session. The Best Paper Award was won by Dr. Fui-Theng Leow from University of Nottingham Ningbo China, with her paper entitled “Using LMS Analytics to Optimise Learning Design from the Activity Theory Perspective”. Best-in-Session Presentation Awards were also awarded to the best presenters in each track. Papers from the conference will be published in a special issue in the International Journal of Creative Multimedia by the Faculty of Creative Multimedia, Multimedia University.

As part of ELITE 2019, a workshop “Conduct Engaging Classroom Activities with Blended Learning Tools” was conducted at the SiRI Lab in the Faculty of Management (FOM). 10 participants from local and international higher institutions of learning participated in the half-day workshop.
