A total of 11 groups, each comprising eight students from the Faculty of Management, (FOM) presented their fintech solutions during the TNG Digital Fintech Innovation Pitch recently. The event marked the culmination of an Industry-Based Assignment (IBA) for the Fintech course, allowing students to apply classroom knowledge to real-world industry challenges.
Each group was assigned a specific user segment, including SMEs, parents, gig workers, rural users, students, and other demographic profiles. Based on their assigned segments, students analysed e-wallet usage patterns, transaction frequency, preferred payment methods, spending behaviour, as well as limitations and pain points in existing e-wallet services. They then developed tailored fintech solutions to address the unique needs of each user group.
Among the standout innovations was a “Round Off Savings” feature, designed to encourage effortless saving habits. For instance, when a user makes a payment of RM5.80, the remaining RM0.20 is automatically transferred into a dedicated savings wallet. This micro-saving mechanism enables users to accumulate savings gradually through daily transactions while promoting better financial discipline.
The 10-minute poster pitch sessions marked the conclusion of a collaboration that began in April 2026, when representatives from TNG Digital visited MMU to introduce the assignment and share insights into current fintech trends and industry challenges. Returning as judges, the industry panel evaluated students’ proposals based on creativity, feasibility, and presentation quality.
The event was officiated by Dr. Abby Ashraff Bin Saprudin, Deputy Dean of FOM. Also present were Associate Professor Dr. Ong Jeen Wei, Director of Alumni, Career and Entrepreneurship Development (ACED), and Dr. Sin Yew Keong, Deputy Director of ACED. Representing TNG Digital were Ms. Koyi Tan, Head of Growth, and Mr. Keith Siah, Senior Product Manager (Platform), alongside Ms. Annie Lye Yin Fei from Employer Branding and HR Governance and Encik Mohamad Shahrul Neezam Mohamad Azmee from Talent Acquisition.
At the end of the competition, five groups were recognised for their outstanding performances and received exclusive limited-edition TNG cards sponsored by TNG Digital in recognition of their innovative ideas and effective presentations. The initiative continues to strengthen industry–academia collaboration while equipping students with practical exposure, critical thinking skills, and innovation capabilities in the fintech domain.
The programme was jointly organized by Ms. Nurul Atiah Mohd Zin, Ms. Fatin Zaida Zaidi, and Dr. Mohd Fairuz as part of the Industry-Based Assignment (IBA) for the Bachelor of Finance specifically for subject called Fintech. The initiative was conducted in collaboration with TNG Digital and received strong support from ACED and the CEC Club, reflecting the faculty’s commitment to fostering industry-academia collaboration.
