Degree and Diploma students from the Faculty of Management (FOM) recently participated in two educational visits to the Palace of Justice, Putrajaya. The visits provided students enrolled in Business Law course with valuable first-hand exposure to Malaysia’s judicial system.
Welcomed by the Assistant Registrar, the students were introduced to courtroom etiquette, judicial protocols, and the role of the judiciary before observing live proceedings at the Court of Appeal. Degree students had the opportunity to attend the scheduled delivery of the decision in the widely publicised Syed Saddiq appeal, while Diploma students observed both civil and criminal appeal hearings, providing them with practical insights into courtroom advocacy and judicial proceedings.
In addition to observing court sessions, students attended an informative briefing on Malaysia’s legal system, covering the sources of law, the hierarchy and jurisdiction of the courts, and the administration of justice. An interactive question-and-answer session enabled them to gain further insights into courtroom procedures, judicial careers, and the practical application of legal principles. The visits also included guided tours of the Court Library, where students explored legal research resources used by judges and legal practitioners, and the Court Museum, which showcased the history and development of Malaysia’s judiciary.
The educational visits provided students with a valuable opportunity to bridge classroom learning with real-world legal practice, offering a deeper understanding of the judicial process and the legal profession. Through direct exposure to court proceedings and interactions with judicial officers, the experience reinforced key concepts taught in the Business Law curriculum while highlighting the importance of the judiciary in upholding justice and the rule of law. It is hoped that the exposure gained through the visits will broaden students’ perspectives on the Malaysian judicial system and strengthen their understanding of legal practice.
