

The King Sejong Institute (KSI) MMU Melaka organised the K-Pop Dance Cover Competition 2026 on 6 June 2026 at the Melaka campus, bringing together K-pop enthusiasts and talented performers from various age groups.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Mr. Kim Sang Bum, Consul of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Malaysia. In his welcoming remarks, Prof. Ir. Dr. Zulfadzli Yusoff, Vice President of Student Experience and Entrepreneurship Development, expressed his appreciation to the participants and audience for their support in making the event a vibrant celebration of Korean culture.
The competition attracted 25 entries across three categories: Under-12 Solo, Under-12 Team, and Open Category. Participants showcased their creativity, teamwork, and performance skills through energetic dance routines inspired by popular K-pop artists.
The event served as a platform to promote cultural exchange and strengthen interest in Korean language and culture among the local community, while providing participants with an opportunity to demonstrate their talent and passion for K-pop. Also present were the Directors of Hankuk TV, Mr. Park In Keun and Mr. Kamala Nathan, Dr. Ong Sue Lyn, Director of LIfE and other KSI MMU staff members.
In the Open Category, Team Solarize from Kuala Lumpur emerged as Champion with their performance of Back to Life by &TEAM. The team took home RM800 in cash, a Korean product hamper worth RM200, and a trophy. The First Runner-Up received RM500 in cash, a Korean product hamper worth RM200, and a trophy, while the Second Runner-Up was awarded RM300 in cash, a Korean product hamper worth RM200, and a trophy. Participants in the Under-12 categories were also recognised with Korean product hampers for their commendable performances.
The event was successfully organised with the support of collaboration partners Dynamix Studio and D.Five Dance House, whose representatives served as judges throughout the competition. The Korean Culture Club MMU Cyberjaya also assisted as the event crew.
In addition, the programme received support from various industry partners, including Life Time Malaysia Online Korean Magazine, NH Trade Group, Kokodak Melaka, Zen Plus Korean Cuisine Melaka, Uncle Jang Korean BBQ Melaka, Hanam BBQ Melaka, and SAN 105 Korean BBQ Restaurant.
