A total of 20 participants comprising academics among advisors, assessors and moderators attended the APEL(C) Instrument Training Workshop, organised by Centre for Lifelong Learning and Academic Content Development (LEAD) to strengthen institutional readiness in implementing the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning for Credit Award [APEL. C] at the IDEASlab, FAIE on 26 June 2025.
The training commenced with a comprehensive review of the APEL(C) process, providing participants with an updated understanding of the policy framework and procedural flow. This training started with focus shifted to the Challenge Test instruments, covering key components such as the Self-Assessment Form, Test Specification Table, actual Challenge Test development, and the Answer Scheme.
These sessions aimed to ensure consistency and quality in test preparation and evaluation. Then, the training resumed with the Portfolio component of APEL(C), emphasising best practices for completing the Self-Assessment Form, Portfolio Submission Form, and preparing a well-structured Portfolio. Participants were also guided on how to conduct interviews and use assessment rubrics effectively.
The session was described as interactive and insightful, with participants expressing appreciation for the practical examples and clear guidelines shared by the facilitators. This initiative reflects the institution’s ongoing commitment to uphold quality and inclusiveness in higher education through the recognition of prior experiential learning.
