A research team containing a postgraduate student and lecturers of the Faculty of Computing and Informatics (FCI) with their collaborators obtained the “Best Paper Award” at the IEEE International Conference on Computing (ICOCO) 2022, recently.

The postgraduate student namely Mubdiul Hossain presented a research paper entitled “Optimized n-Based Implementation of B-COSFIRE Filter for Retinal Blood Vessel Segmentation”. The proposal highlighted an optimised retinal blood vessel segmentation method for an Android-based smartphone platform. The proposed methods may allow for analysing fundus images in resource-limited settings such as clinics in rural or remote areas. Thus, offering a mobile solution for retinal screening at a cheaper cost.

The paper is supported by the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) under the Malaysia Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). The grant is led by Dr. Aziah Ali and members from FCI namely Dr. Noramiza Hashim, Dr. Wan Noorshahida Mohd Isa, with their collaborators, Prof. Dr. Aini Hussain and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wan Mimi Diyana Wan Zaki, who is also an MMU Alumnus. The team has been invited to publish an extended version of their paper; to be submitted to the Journal of Cases on Information Technology (JCIT) – IGI Global, which is a Scopus Q2 Journal.

Congratulations!
