In the recent alumni webinar series, the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) invited Ir. Sim Jun Chiet, a Mechanical Engineering alumnus to speak on the importance of renewable energy in the future global demand and the career prospect for engineering graduates in the renewable energy sector. Ir. Sim, who is currently working as the Head of Sustainable Development in Samaiden Group Bhd, has more than 10 years of working experience in the boiler engineering and renewable energy engineering sector. He is also a registered BEM professional engineer, MBOT professional technologist, and certified energy manager.

Ir. Sim presented the fundamental concept of renewable energy. He explained that the advancement of renewable power generation technologies induced low-cost renewable power generation and increased the demand for renewable energy in the global energy transition. The majority of the renewable energy sources in Southeast Asia are in the form of solar, wind, and hydro. He also highlighted that Malaysia has an abundant supply of renewable energy resources which provides good future prospects in the renewable energy engineering sector. Before the virtual talk session ended, Ir. Sim introduced to the audience the renewable energy projects that he is currently working on. He welcomed FET staff and students for renewable energy research project collaboration.
