A total of 77 students from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) attended a virtual technical talk session on 21st October 2021. Organised by the Industrial Linkage Committee (ILC) of the faculty, the session was conducted by two industrial speakers from GTS Petronas namely Ir. Hayati Hussien, Principal Offshore Pipeline Engineer, and Ms. Koi Swee Ling, Staff Engineer (Pipeline Integrity) to provide exposure and share knowledge on the pipeline design and system to the audience.

Ir. Hayati Hussien, who has 32 years of experience in offshore and onshore pipeline design and integrity management, explained the importance of fundamental knowledge of fluid mechanics in designing a pipeline system that can be widely applied across all industry sectors. Meanwhile, Ms. Koi who has been in the pipeline engineering field for more than 12 years, presented the common pipeline threats to both offshore and onshore pipelines and introduced various pipeline inspection technologies which apply to assess potential threats for mitigation measures. The speakers also engaged the audiences with a quiz game and some Q&A during the interactive session.

The virtual technical talk session has inspired the engineering undergraduates to appreciate the relevance of knowledge gained from the engineering courses and apply the learned knowledge in good engineering practices for a sustainable energy future.
