A total of 160 accounting students attended Professional Qualification Awareness Series 2018 at Melaka campus recently. The event was organised by the Faculty of Business which participated by professional bodies; CPA Australia, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA). The series aimed to impart the awareness on the professional qualification and available exemptions for accounting students. As a key platform in building a better understanding of the profession in the country, this event has successfully closed the gap between students’ interests and professional bodies’ expectations.

With the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) recognised undergraduate programme, students will get a head start to become professionally qualified accountants while they are still studying in the university. The professional bodies intend to offer more specialised range of activities such as Industry Engagements, Career Talks and Sharing Sessions throughout the academic year in order to help students to enhance their competency and decision-making process. In meeting the national demand for 60,000 qualified accountants by 2020, the Faculty will continue to work with existing professional accounting bodies to instil further awareness among the students.
