More than 100 students from the Faculty of Management (FOM) gained first-hand insights into the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification and careers in finance through “CFA Uncensored: The Good, the Bad, and the Grind” on 25 September 2026.
The event was graced by Prof. Dr. Tan Booi Chen, the Dean of FOM, and commenced with a welcoming address by Dr. Hasni Hanafi, Deputy Dean, Academic and Innovative Learning, FOM, followed by a CFA Programme Briefing by Mr. Zarul Zaabah, CFA, Associate Director of Program Planning at the Asia School of Business (in collaboration with MIT Sloan Management).
The briefing introduced students to the CFA Programme, including its structure, examination requirements and pathway towards earning the CFA charter. A key highlight was the fireside chat featuring Ms. Chow Syn Nee, Executive Director of CFA Society Malaysia, and Mr. Zarul Zaabah, CFA, moderated by Ms. Amanina Hidayah Abdul Hambali, University and Training Relations Executive, CFA Society Malaysia. The discussion gave students a candid look at preparing for the CFA examinations, managing competing commitments and exploring career opportunities in investment and finance.
An engaging Q&A session followed, allowing students to raise questions and hear directly from the speakers about the challenges and opportunities associated with pursuing the CFA qualification.
The programme was organised by Ms. Haslin Johari, FOM’s CFA Liaison Officer, and Ms. Zarehan Selamat, Programme Coordinator of the Bachelor in Finance, with assistance from Bachelor in Accounting students.
Through the session, students gained a clearer understanding of the CFA pathway and the expectations of pursuing a professional qualification in finance, complementing their academic learning with insights from practitioners and representatives of the professional body.
