FIST Conducts Networking Workshops for Matriculation Students

The Faculty of Information Science and Technology (FIST) conducted two sessions of the Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP) entitled “Future Network Engineers KTP Project: Basic Networking Workshop (Cisco CCNA)” for students from Kolej Matrikulasi Melaka and Kolej Matrikulasi Johor.

The workshops were held on 14 and 15 August 2026 and 11 and 12 September 2026, introducing participants to basic networking concepts and practical network configuration. The programme was led by Ts. Dr. Subarmaniam Kannan as the main instructor, with support from Ts. Ibrahim Yusof, Ts. Mohd Fikri Azli Abdullah, Roy Chang Kwang Yang and Ts. Thinesh Ganesan.

Aligned with the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) framework, the workshops covered topics such as IP addressing, network communication, device connectivity and basic network configuration. Participants also used Cisco Packet Tracer to apply what they learned through hands-on exercises in a simulated networking environment.

Through the practical activities, students gained experience in configuring network devices, establishing connections and performing basic troubleshooting. The sessions also gave them an opportunity to understand how computer networks operate and explore the fundamentals of networking in a practical setting.

The KTP initiative provided pre-university students with early exposure to networking and ICT, while supporting knowledge sharing between FIST and the participating matriculation colleges. It also gave students an opportunity to explore an area of study that could support their future education and career interests in ICT.
