Accounting Students Explore the Pathway to Chartered Accountancy

On 17 September 2026, a group of accounting students from the Faculty of Business (FOB) gained first-hand insights into the professional accountancy landscape through an industrial visit to the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA). Organised by the CPA Australia Student Charter, the visit was attended by the students, accompanied by Madam Nur Baiti binti Shafee and Madam Haniza binti Hashim, along with Accounting Club President Soh Jing En and CPA Australia Student Charter President Muhammad Ikhlas bin Mohd Faizal.

A key highlight of the visit was the “Future-Ready Accountant” briefing and sharing session, which introduced the students to MIA’s role in regulating and supporting the accountancy profession in Malaysia. The session also provided them with a clearer understanding of the professional pathway towards becoming a Chartered Accountant of Malaysia (CAM), including the expectations and competencies required in the profession.

The students also had the opportunity to meet MIA President Dato’ Saniza Said and gain insights into the evolving financial sector, professional ethics and the expectations placed on future accounting professionals. The engagement allowed them to hear directly from a senior figure in the profession and gain a better understanding of the realities of pursuing a career in accountancy.

The visit also included a tour of the MIA facilities, giving the students a closer look at the professional working environment. The experience provided them with a better understanding of how their academic knowledge connects with the accountancy profession and the career opportunities that lie ahead.
