

On 26 August 2026, MMU was honoured to host the Majlis Peluncuran Sambutan Ulang Tahun Ke-80 Telekom Malaysia (TM) at Dewan Tun Canselor, Cyberjaya campus, commemorating TM’s eight-decade journey in connecting Malaysians and contributing to the nation’s digital development.
The celebration was officiated by YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, and attended by Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, Menteri Besar of Selangor; Dato’ Seri Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications; Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Chief Secretary to the Government of Malaysia; and Tan Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Salim Fateh Din, Chairman of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC); Dato’ Zainal Abidin Putih, Chairman of TM; Datuk Amar Huzaimi Md Deris, Group Chief Executive Officer of TM , among other distinguished guests.
Held under the theme “Driving a Progressive Digital Malaysia. For a More Inclusive Future,” the celebration highlighted TM’s journey across eight decades, from its early telecommunications services to its continued contribution to Malaysia’s digital transformation.
During the event, the Prime Minister visited several exhibition booths, including the AIX (Accelerating AI Excellence), a collaborative initiative between MCMC and MMU to accelerate AI innovation, capability development and ecosystem growth in Malaysia. MMU President, Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, was also present to brief the Prime Minister on the initiative.
The occasion also brought together Warga TM, MMU staff and students, with generations of people connected to the Group coming together to witness the historic celebration. Adding to the patriotic spirit of the event was a special rendition of “Jalur Gemilang” in conjunction with the National Month celebrations.
From telecommunications to today’s digital landscape, TM’s story has been closely woven into the development of Malaysia. As TM commemorates eight decades of connecting Malaysia, MMU continues to advance education, innovation and talent development, contributing towards a progressive and inclusive Digital Malaysia.
