FOM Team Wins Second Runner up at RIFAR 2026

Team OT3, consisting of Amiera Sofea binti Shuhizamir, Amy Nursafia binti Mohd Rosdi, and Syed Muzzakkir bin Syed Shairul Azuar from the Faculty of Management (FOM), was announced as the second runner-up in the Sprint category at the River Flooding Adaptation & Resilience (RIFAR) Challenge 2026. The team walked away with a cash prize of RM1,000 during the prize-giving ceremony held at the Securities Commission’s RIFAR Showcase on 30 July 2026.

The Sprint category challenged participants to produce creative social media videos promoting river conservation and healthy waterways in Selangor, with entries judged based on their creativity and impact in raising public awareness. The event attracted around 250 attendees, including representatives from government agencies, financial institutions, academia, and climate experts, to celebrate youth-led innovation in climate adaptation. A total of RM57,000 in cash prizes was awarded by the Securities Commission across the competition.

Launched in April 2026, RIFAR was organised by the Securities Commission in collaboration with ICAEW Malaysia, Lembaga Urus Air Selangor, Landasan Lumayan Sdn. Bhd., and the Jeffrey Sachs Centre. The challenge attracted close to 400 students from 46 local and international universities, all competing to develop practical and financially viable solutions to Malaysia’s growing flood risks.

MMU was represented by two other teams from FOM: Hydrohive, which competed in the Marathon category, and Aquababies, which competed in the Sprint category. Their participation reflects MMU’s strong commitment to nurturing innovative, sustainability-driven solutions among its students while contributing meaningfully to national conversations on climate resilience. The teams were guided by their mentors, Dr. Sellywati binti Mohd Faizal and Ms. Haslin binti Johari from FOM.
