The Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET), through its Alumni Committee, organised an online FET Alumni Guest Lecture Session titled “Branding & Representation: Owning Your Narrative” in June 2026, reflecting the faculty’s commitment to equipping students with both technical expertise and essential professional skills.

The session featured Ms. Kaviratna Narayansamy, an alumna who graduated in 2025 with a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.) in Electronics Engineering, majoring in Robotics and Automation. Specially curated for students pursuing the same programme, the session attracted approximately 30 participants eager to gain insights into building their professional identities and preparing for the transition into the workforce.

The programme commenced with an interactive Mentimeter activity that encouraged students to reflect on their perceptions of personal branding and the values that shape an engineer’s reputation, including trust, professionalism, integrity, and accountability. Drawing from her own experiences as a recent graduate, Ms. Kaviratna shared practical advice on navigating the early stages of one’s career, highlighting the importance of authenticity, effective communication, networking, and maintaining a positive attitude.

She also encouraged students to actively engage in volunteering and co-curricular activities, noting that such experiences foster leadership qualities, strengthen interpersonal skills, and broaden professional networks. All in all, it provided students with valuable exposure to real-world perspectives and industry expectations, while strengthening the bonds between alumni and current students as they prepare to embark on their professional journeys.
