A total of 35 students, including both undergraduate and postgraduate cohorts, had the opportunity to visit Northport as part of their experiential learning for the International Trade and Policy subject on 17 June 2025. The visit proved to be both insightful and enriching, effectively bridging classroom knowledge with real-world application.
The students were warmly welcomed by Mr. Shadzril Elmy Sharom, who delivered an informative seminar on port management and operations. His session provided a comprehensive overview of the port’s strategic role in global trade, its operational processes, and future developments within the maritime logistics sector.
Following the seminar, the students were taken on a guided tour of the port, during which Mr. Shadzril generously shared further insights into Northport’s key activities, logistics flow, and the importance of efficiency and innovation in port operations.
For many students, this was a rare and eye-opening experience. Several expressed excitements at the opportunity to enter a working port facility for the first time, gaining firsthand exposure to the scale and complexity of port operations they had previously only studied in theory.
The visit was led and accompanied by Dr. Susan Chin, subject lecturer, Dr. Chow Mei Min, Head of the Department of International Business, and Assistant Professor Dr. Tan Pei Kian from the Faculty of Business (FOB). It is hoped that the visit not only deepened the students’ understanding of international trade dynamics but also highlighted the vital role of ports in global commerce.
