The Faculty of Management (FOM) in collaboration with CPA Australia, organised a sharing session titled “Understanding Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) in the Business World” on 8 June 2026 at the Cyberjaya campus. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Sunita Lylia Hamdan with the assistance of Madam Rapiah Mohd. Zaini and CPA Student Ambassadors from FOM.

Mr. Patrick Viljoen, ESG Lead, Policy & Advocacy and Sustainability Leader at CPA Australia shared his knowledge and experience on the increasing importance of ESG practices in today’s business environment. The event was attended by undergraduate students from the Accounting and Finance programmes, as well as Diploma and Postgraduate students. During the session, participants were introduced to the fundamentals of ESG and its growing influence on business operations, corporate governance, and decision-making processes.

The speaker also explained how businesses place greater emphasis on sustainability and responsible practices in response to environmental concerns, stakeholder expectations, and regulatory developments. He also highlighted the role of ESG in helping organisations manage risks, strengthen accountability, and create long-term value.

The session provided students with useful industry insights and a better understanding of how ESG principles are applied in the workplace. It also allowed them to gain exposure to current developments that are shaping the future of the business and accounting professions. Programmes such as this reflect MMU’s ongoing efforts to connect students with industry professionals and provide learning opportunities beyond the classroom.
