A team of dedicated students from MMU Special Interest Group (SIG) Mooting and FOL recently showcased a commendable performance at the 2026 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition (Malaysian National Rounds), one of the most prestigious moot court competitions in the field of public international law. The team comprised Shivendran Kesevan, Narisha Raj Kaur, Preena Ram, Chan Wen Suen, and Wong Jian Han.

Competing against eight teams from universities across Malaysia, our secured an impressive 5th place overall, achieving 2 wins and 2 losses in the General Rounds. Their performance placed them among the top teams in the competition, further highlighting their dedication and preparation.

The team’s participation was made possible through the dedication and guidance of their trainers and mentors, whose continuous support played a vital role in preparing the students for the rigorous demands of the competition.

Throughout the competition, the team demonstrated strong legal reasoning, advocacy skills, and a comprehensive understanding of complex issues in public international law. Notably, Narisha Raj Kaur delivered an outstanding oral performance, achieving a ranking of 7th out of 27 oralists, while Preena Ram was placed 15th out of 27 oralists, reflecting the team’s strong advocacy capabilities.

Co-organised by the Universiti Malaya as the Malaysian National Administrator on behalf of the International Law Students Association (ILSA), the Jessup Malaysian National Rounds bring together leading law students nationwide to compete in a simulated dispute before the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The competition serves as a platform for participants to develop their advocacy skills and deepen their understanding of contemporary issues in public international law.
