MMU students and staff welcomed the Year of the Horse with the Chinese New Year Celebration at the Melaka campus on 4 February 2026. With this year’s theme of “Zenith,” symbolising reaching the highest peak, growth, and excellence, the event was graced by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, President of MMU, alongside distinguished guests, including Datuk Kian Sit Har, Advisor Gabungan Persatuan-Persatuan Masyarakat Tionghua Melaka, and Mdm. Ho Poh Heung, Advisor of Women Division, Gabungan Persatuan-Persatuan Masyarakat Tionghua Melaka, as well as members of the university community.

The celebration opened with a lion dance performance by Persatuan Tarian Singa BSMM Machap Baru Melaka to greet the guests, followed by the Prosperity Toss (Lo Sahng) ceremony, a symbolic ritual of unity and good fortune that set the tone for an auspicious year ahead.

A rich lineup of cultural performances captivated attendees, including the rhythmic 24 Festive Drums, majestic Loong Dance, Wushu and Wing Chun demonstrations, the elegant Cheongsam Dance, and a dazzling Diabolo showcase by Cecilia Kwan. The MMU Chinese Orchestra added harmonious traditional melodies, while the Mata Dance Club and Mmusic Society Live Band energized the hall with modern flair, showcasing the creativity and diversity of the university community.

The Best Dressed Awards recognised participants from both student and staff categories, adding an element of fun and style to the occasion. The celebration concluded with a grand group photo session and a firecracker lighting ceremony, symbolically bidding farewell to the old year and welcoming prosperity and success in the new year.

Organised by the Chinese Language Society (CLS) with the support of Human Capital Management and Student Lifestyle and Experience, the event successfully combined tradition, culture, and community spirit, leaving attendees inspired and uplifted for the year ahead.
