Webinars Inspire Students with Industry Insights on Finance and Fintech

In September 2025, the Faculty of Business (FOB) hosted two engaging webinars that connected students with industry experts, offering valuable perspectives on finance, fintech, and career readiness.

On 17 September, nearly 180 students and academics joined the webinar “Beyond Code: How InvestTech Powers Modern Finance”, organised in collaboration with TradeVSA Sdn. Bhd. The session was delivered by Mr. Martin Wong, Co-Founder of TradeVSA System Sdn. Bhd., a respected figure in financial market analytics and the patent holder of the SMARTRobie application, which serves the Bursa Malaysia, SGX, HKSE, and US stock markets. Drawing on his experience as a financial analyst and discretionary fund manager, Mr. Wong highlighted industry trends and the competencies needed to thrive in today’s fast-changing fintech environment.

Earlier, on 10 September, over 260 students and academics attended the webinar “Graduate to Greatness: Unlock Thrilling Opportunities in Financial Planning”, organised in collaboration with the Malaysian Financial Planning Council (MFPC). The speaker was Mr. Idham Idris, Co-Founder of Wealth Vantage Advisory, Licensed Financial Planner, and proud Permata Dunia (Class of 1999). He shared career insights drawn from his early days with Telekom Malaysia to his extensive professional experience, inspiring students to explore opportunities in financial planning.

Both sessions were graced by Madam Hazlaili Binti Hashim, Head of the Department of Economics, Banking and Finance, FOB. The successful execution of the programmes was made possible through the efforts of the organising committee: Dr. Audrey Lim Li Chin, Dr. Mohammad Tariqul Islam Khan, Dr. Peong Kwee Kim, and Ms. Ng Lik Neo.

These initiatives not only enriched students’ learning experiences but also reinforced FOB’s commitment to bridging academic knowledge with real-world industry practice.
