Dr. Muhammad Afif Fathullah, our lecturer and “Permata Dunia” of MMU from the Faculty of Management (FOM), was selected as one of only 25 participants worldwide to join the prestigious Russian Summer Institute Programme for Young Researchers at the Linguistic University of Nizhny Novgorod (LUNN). The fully sponsored programme, supported by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, was held from 28 July to 10 August.

The programme aims to expand the global network of young researchers through collaborative research, joint publication of scientific articles, and participation in academic and cultural exchanges between Russia and other participating countries. Dr. Afif was the sole representative from Malaysia, selected through a highly competitive process that assessed his academic and research credentials, teaching experience, and a submitted motivational video.

The sponsorship covered all expenses, including round-trip airfare, accommodation, meals, insurance, and cultural excursions. Participants hailed from diverse countries such as Korea, South Africa, China, India, Indonesia, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Serbia, Moldova, and Kyrgyzstan.

The program featured both educational and cultural components. Academic activities included theoretical and practical modules in linguistics, communication, history, digital media, IT management, business, and culture, delivered by experts from four renowned institutions: LUNN, Innopolis University, Mordovia State University, and Knyagininsky University. The program concluded with participants presenting proposals for international research collaborations with LUNN and other partner institutions.

Cultural engagements offered participants the opportunity to experience Russia’s rich heritage and modern advancements. Highlights included visits to the Kremlin and historical districts of Nizhny Novgorod, Knyaginino, the hometown of poet Alexander Pushkin in Boldino, Kazan’s UNESCO-listed Kremlin, the high-tech city of Innopolis, and Saransk, known for its blend of modern and classical architecture.

Dr. Afif’s participation not only marks a personal milestone but also reflects MMU’s commitment to fostering global exposure, academic excellence, and international collaboration in the social sciences. He welcomes students and staff interested in exploring study opportunities in Russia to connect with him for guidance and networking support.
