A total of 40 final year accounting students from Faculty of Business (FOB) Melaka attended the CPA Australia Career Expo 2018 at KLCC Convention Center recently. The trip was led by the Dean of FOB, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gog Guan Gan. The expo is an annual one-stop platform where students are able to network with industry experts and potential employers.

Industry professionals from twenty-two prominent multinationals, which includes the Big Four accounting firms, participated in the event. The participants were able to secure opportunities to engage with potential accounting recruiters and learned on how to secure their first job.

Earlier than that, 27 second-year accounting students participated in a field trip to Malaysian of Institute of Accountants (MIA) and CPA Australia. The trip, organised by the Accounting Department aims to expose and connect the students with the local and international professional bodies. The first stop of the field trip was to the MIA office. MIA is the national accountancy body which regulates, develops, supports and enhances the accounting profession in Malaysia. During the visit, our participants were invited to attend a professional talk on the current development of the Malaysian financial reporting standards and taxation matters.

The trip continued with a visit to one of the world’s largest accounting bodies’ regional office, CPA Australia. At the office, the students were briefed on the existing entry requirements and the available exemptions for the students in affiliating with the offered professional qualification programme. The field trip is believed to have successfully bridged the expectation gap between the students and the professional bodies. FOB will continue to expose and support its students in making wiser decisions in their future career undertakings.
