On 23 September 2026, an educational visit to the Jabatan Perhubungan Perusahaan Melaka (JPPM) gave Bachelor of Human Resource Management students from MMU Melaka an opportunity to explore how industrial relations principles are applied in the workplace.
Held at Menara Persekutuan, MITC, Melaka, the visit was organised as part of the subject to complement classroom learning with practical insights into employment and industrial relations matters handled by a government department.
The session was led by JPPM Melaka Director, Mr. Rosli bin Jantan, who provided an overview of the department’s roles and functions, which are broadly divided into Pembangunan Dasar & Khidmat Nasihat and Penyelesaian Pertikaian & Hak Pekerja. He also introduced the Indeks Keharmonian Perusahaan (IHI), highlighting its role in promoting harmonious relationships between employers and employees.
The students then gained further insights into employment law through a session conducted by Deputy Director of JPPM Melaka, Puan Farah Wahida Binti Mat Jirin. She shared her knowledge on the Employment Act 1955, particularly Rundingan Damai dalam Representasi Pemulihan Kerja, giving students a better understanding of the procedures involved in addressing employment-related matters and resolving workplace disputes.
The session also covered domestic inquiry and workplace disciplinary procedures, providing students with practical insights into how employee misconduct and disciplinary matters are addressed. Puan Farah Wahida also shared interview tips and insights into workplace expectations, offering useful guidance as the students prepare for their future careers in Human Resource Management.
The visit provided an opportunity for students to connect concepts from their Industrial Relations course with real workplace practices, particularly in employment law, dispute resolution and workplace discipline. The direct engagement with JPPM officers also gave them a broader understanding of the role of industrial relations in fostering harmonious employer-employee relationships and a productive working environment.
