DBA candidates gathered at Siri Lab, Faculty of Management (FOM) for an industry talk that provided useful insights into today’s global financial landscape in June 2026. The talk featured Datuk Alvin Tay, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Bank of China (Malaysia) Berhad, who shared his views on global financial economics and the growing economic ties between Malaysia and China. Drawing from his experience in the banking sector, he spoke about how global trends are shaping business decisions and cross-border opportunities.

Among the key areas discussed were international trade developments, the role of Chinese investments in Malaysia, and how the local financial ecosystem supports these activities. Datuk Alvin also highlighted the role of Bank of China Malaysia in facilitating trade, investments, and financial services between both countries.

Participants were also introduced to emerging sectors such as semiconductors, electric vehicles, renewable energy, and the digital economy. Real-world examples and case sharing helped to give a clearer picture of how these developments play out in practice.

Organised  by Prof. Dr. Chong Chin Wei and Dr. Tan Chi Hau, the session was also attended by FOM Dean, Prof. Dr. Tan Booi Chen, along with Dr. Salman Ahmad and Dr. Bright Akwasi Gyamfi, who were present to support the programme and its candidates. Overall, the talk gave participants a better understanding of current global financial trends while connecting what they learn in class with real industry perspectives.
