Accounting students at the Faculty of Management (FOM) gained valuable exposure to professional accounting pathways during an engagement session titled “ACCA Pathway to Professional Success: ACCA Qualification, Accelerate Programme and Career Insights” held in June 2026 at the Cyberjaya campus.
The session brought together academic staff, industry representatives, and alumni to provide students with a clearer understanding of the journey towards becoming professional accountants. It was organised by Ms. Azleen Shabrina Mohd Nor, ACCA Liaison Officer, together with Ms. Rapiah Mohd Zaini and Ms. Haslin Johari, and supported by the Dean, Prof. Dr. Tan Booi Chen, along with faculty leadership and programme coordinators.
Students were introduced to the ACCA qualification structure and the ACCA Accelerate Programme by Mr. Peter Gabriel, Business Relationship Manager, ACCA Maritime Southeast Asia. His sharing highlighted key advantages of the programme, including early access to professional papers and fee exemptions, which help students plan their professional journey more strategically ahead of their internship phase.
Adding an industry perspective, FOM alumna Ms. Yee Leng Chooi, Senior Manager, Indirect Tax at Ernst & Young Tax Consultants Sdn Bhd, Kuala Lumpur, together with Miss Michelle, shared their experiences in navigating the accounting profession. Their insights offered students a practical understanding of workplace expectations, tax compliance, and the skills required to thrive in a corporate environment.
The session also helped students better understand the requirements of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) pathway, providing them with clearer direction as they prepare for future professional certification and careers in accounting and finance. Overall, the engagement offered students a meaningful perspective on the realities of the profession while reinforcing their awareness of the steps needed to progress towards becoming Chartered Accountants.
