MMU in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Elitery, Jakarta, has taken another significant step in nurturing future-ready talent through the AWS CendekiAwan 2026 Programme. Through the initiative, MMU students were given free access to self-learning modules via Elite Academy, covering topics such as Generative AI, AWS PartyRock, and Amazon Bedrock. A train-the-trainer session was also conducted for selected staff members and senior students to support the development of AI champions within the university.
As part of the programme, students were challenged to develop innovative, real-world solutions using AWS PartyRock through a university-level competition. Despite having only two weeks to complete their projects, the competition attracted almost 60 submissions from across the university, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for AI innovation among MMU students. The Faculty of Artificial Intelligence and Engineering (FAIE) contributed the highest number of entries, followed by the Faculty of Management (FOM), the Faculty of Information Science and Technology (FIST), the Faculty of Computing and Informatics (FCI), and other faculties. Five outstanding teams were subsequently selected to represent their respective categories and participated in a series of technical workshops facilitated by industry partners to refine their ideas into production-ready applications.
The journey ended at the AWS CendekiAwan 2026 Showcase and Awards Ceremony, held on 24 June 2026 at the Cyberjaya campus, where finalist teams presented their solutions before representatives from AWS, Elitery, and the university community. As a result, the winning projects were DiabetesControl AI Expert from FAIE (Digital Health), Malaysia Business Launchpad: From Idea to Action from FIST (Financial Inclusion and SME Empowerment), DewanAI from the Faculty of Business (GovTech and Social Impact), Virtual Science Lab Assistant from FAIE (Smart Education), and SmartWaste from FAIE (Sustainable Environment and Climate).
Also attending the event were Prof. Ts. Dr Lau Siong Hoe, Vice President of Market Exploration, Engagement & Touchpoint, Prof. Dr. Ooi Chee Pun, Dean of FAIE and representatives from AWS & Elitery. Beyond celebrating innovation and creativity, the programme has equipped our students with future-ready digital competencies and providing continuous opportunities to explore the transformative potential of AI and cloud technologies, with the self-learning resources remaining available to all MMU students.
Congratulations!
