

Another sporting milestone was achieved as the MMU judo team delivered an impressive performance at the Penang Invitational Judo Championship 2026, securing a total of two gold medals and one silver medal in the Kata category.
The gold medals were won by Danial Ashraaf Khan Bin Mohd Noor Shamsul Khan (Faculty of Law) and U Boon Xuan (Faculty of Information Science & Technology) in the Men’s Ju-no-Kata, as well as by Choong Shih Kar (Faculty of Law) and Winnie Chan Qian Hui (Faculty of Law) in the Women’s Katame-no-Kata. Meanwhile, Chia Yuh Bao (Faculty of Law) and Angeline Teo Zhi Xin secured the silver medal in Women’s Ju-no-Kata, completing a strong overall performance by the team.
Held from 16 to 19 April 2026 at Sunshine Central, Penang, the championship was organised by the Penang Judo Association and featured both Kata (forms) and Shiai (sparring) events. The competition also included official weigh-ins and championship rounds, providing participants with valuable exposure to competition structure and officiating procedures.
A total of seven athletes and one staff member represented MMU at the championship. The team’s achievement reflects strong technical ability, discipline, and teamwork, further underscoring the University’s commitment to sporting excellence and holistic student development.
