On 2 April 2026, the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence & Engineering (FAIE), in collaboration with Engineers Without Borders (EWB), the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), and the IEEE Student Branch, organised a Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP) at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Jugra in Banting, Selangor.

Led by Dr. Teh Chin Hui and Ir. Dr. Siva Priya Thiagarajah, the initiative aimed to introduce students to solar energy systems and inspire interest in engineering and sustainable technology.

The programme began with a Photovoltaic (PV) Technology Fundamentals workshop conducted by Dr. Teh Chin Hui. Students were introduced to the basic components of a solar energy system, including solar panels, charge controllers, batteries, and simple electrical loads such as USB-powered fans and lights. The session was delivered through an interactive presentation to strengthen conceptual understanding.

In the second phase, students participated in a hands-on activity where they assembled a functional solar system using the components provided. The setup was then taken outdoors, allowing students to observe how sunlight is used to charge the system while presenting their work to the FAIE team.

As part of the initiative, the team also supported the installation of solar-powered lights around the school compound, contributing to the practical application of sustainable energy solutions.

The programme is expected to spark greater interest among students in engineering and STEM fields, while encouraging exploration of renewable energy and sustainable innovation as future career pathways.
