On 5 December 2025, Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) welcomed one of its distinguished alumni, Mr. Vincent Leong Jun Wei, a graduate of Mechanical Engineering (class of 2017) to share insights into his professional journey. Mr. Vincent Leong is currently employed at SMC Automation as an engineering supervisor.
He began by recounting his entry into the company, where he has worked since completing his studies. He then proceeded with the description of the company’s business activities and the diversity of the products and its contribution to the logistics chains of consumer appliances. Mr. Vincent Leong also reflected on how his academic experience at MMU prepared him for his career, citing examples of fluid flow lessons that proved relevant to air regulation processes in the manufacturing operations.
A key highlight of the session was the explanation of machine automation and the critical role engineers play in designing and implementing such systems. He emphasized that mechanical engineers are essential in handling automation processes involving significant motion and in ensuring proper maintenance. The session concluded with a Q&A segment focused on career opportunities at SMC Automation. A token of appreciation was presented to Mr. Leong, followed by commendations for the participants who attended the session.
