
A total of 30 participants, comprising academic staff, programme leaders, APEL Centre personnel and administrative staff involved in lifelong learning and alternative admission, successfully attended the Implementation & Its Challenges with APEL A training from 9 to 10 December 2025 at the Cyberjaya campus.
Organised by the Centre for Lifelong Learning and Academic Content Development (LEAD), the programme aimed to enhance understanding of APEL’s benefits, implementation, and challenges, while equipping participants with the knowledge to administer and manage APEL A effectively.
The training began with an introduction to the Malaysia APEL Framework, highlighting its principles as well as the philosophy of lifelong learning and inclusivity. Participants were then introduced to the various APEL categories APEL.A, APEL.C, APEL.Q, and APEL.M along with explanations of their respective functions.
The session continued with discussions on institutional readiness and application, followed by insights into capacity building for effective APEL implementation, including staffing requirements, training development, and resource allocation. On the second day, participants were briefed on the types of APEL A assessments and tools, MQF Level 3 to level 8 assessments, implementation workflows, quality assurance mechanisms, and strategies for overcoming institutional challenges.
The two-day session was described by participants as highly interactive and insightful, with many expressing appreciation for the practical examples and clear guidelines shared by the facilitators. Overall, the initiative reflects the institution’s continued commitment to upholding quality and inclusiveness in higher education through the recognition of prior experiential learning.
