Mr. Eddy Tan, our lecturer from the Faculty of Cinematic Arts and proud MMU alumnus, has been selected for the FreedomFilmFest Emerging Curators Lab 2025, with the announcement made on 22 October 2025. Organised by the Freedom Film Network, this year-long mentorship and creative development programme brings together aspiring curators, artists, and programmers to explore how film can spark dialogue and promote social awareness.

As part of the programme, participants will collaborate on community-based screenings and curatorial projects, reimagining what a human rights-focused film festival can look like. Mr. Eddy’s selection recognises his significant contributions to the regional film ecosystem. In his role as Programme Director of the SeaShorts Film Festival, one of Southeast Asia’s leading short film festivals, he continues to support emerging voices and foster meaningful connections between cinema and society.

This recognition not only celebrates Mr. Eddy Tan’s personal achievement but also highlights MMU’s growing influence in the regional film and arts scene, where education, creativity, and social consciousness intersect.

Congratulations to Mr. Eddy Tan for representing FCA and MMU with pride and distinction!
