A total of 30 participants, comprising academic staff and APEL Centre personnel, successfully attended the “Turning Lifelong Experience into Recognized Academic Achievement with APEL Q” program organised by the Centre for Lifelong Learning and Academic Content Development (LEAD) on 6 and 7 October 2025 at the Cyberjaya campus. The program aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of APEL’s benefits and challenges while equipping them with the knowledge to administer and manage APEL Q effectively.

The training was conducted by Prof. Dr. Liew Teik Kooi (Andy), Chairman of MQA, APEL Q Panel members. The speaker commenced with an introduction to the Malaysian APEL Framework, as well as the principles and philosophy of lifelong learning and inclusivity. Participants were then given an overview of the various APEL categories APEL.A, APEL.C, APEL.Q, and APEL.M along with their respective functions. After the lunch break, the session continued with discussions on managing applications, institutional readiness, capacity building, and institutional governance.

On the second day, participants were briefed on the types of APEL.Q assessments and tools, implementation workflows, quality assurance (QA) mechanisms, and strategies for overcoming institutional challenges. The two-day session was described as interactive and insightful, with participants expressing appreciation for the practical examples and clear guidelines shared by Prof. Andy. This initiative reflects the institution’s ongoing commitment to upholding quality and inclusiveness in higher education through the recognition of prior experiential learning.
