A group of students from both the Cyberjaya and Melaka campuses, accompanied by two officers from Student Lifestyle and Experience (STyLE), took part in the inaugural Serumpun Race: Special Edition 2025 on 4 September 2025. The event, organised by Budi Forward in conjunction with World Tourism Day, gathered over 200 youths and children with special needs across Melaka in a celebration of culture, empathy, and unity.

For MMU students, the programme was a unique opportunity to step outside the classroom and immerse themselves in Melaka’s multicultural heritage. By engaging in interactive challenges across iconic museums, they explored the traditions of six major communities, including Malay, Chinese, Indian, Baba Nyonya, Chetti, and Portuguese, while learning the value of teamwork and creative expression through producing cultural video projects.

The students also had the opportunity to connect with children with special needs throughout the race. These interactions nurtured a sense of empathy, patience, and inclusivity, allowing students to experience firsthand the importance of social responsibility. The involvement of Madam NurAiniah Abu Hassan, our lecturer from the Faculty of Business (FOB), as a judge further highlighted the event’s academic value, blending cultural appreciation with reflective learning. This initiative gave MMU students the chance to deepen their cultural knowledge and sharpen their creative skills, while also building greater awareness of community engagement and inclusivity.

Well done!
