A total of 30 Form Four students and two teachers from Sekolah Menengah Teknik Melaka participated in Module 2 of the Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP) on 17 May 2025, held at the Melaka campus. This module was spearheaded by Dr. Subhacini A/P Subramaniam from the Faculty of Business (FOB), under the Centre for Management and Marketing Innovation (CMMI), aligned with the COE for Business Innovation and Communication.
Titled “Sustainable Style: Empowering Young Entrepreneurs for a Greener Future,” the programme aimed to enhance students’ understanding of sustainability within the fashion industry while fostering creative thinking through experiential learning. The session was delivered by a multidisciplinary team from FOB, including Ms. Siow Yung Ern from the Centre for Accounting, Finance and Economics (CAFE), Ms. Usha Vellappan from the Centre for Digital Innovation (CDI), and Ms. Ng Woan Ming, also from CAFE.
The second session focused on an interactive upcycling workshop, where students were introduced to practical ways of turning waste materials into fashionable and functional items. The objective was to instill eco-conscious values while also promoting entrepreneurial skills among youth through sustainable design thinking. The session was met with great enthusiasm and participation from the students. Several participants also had the opportunity to present their creative outcomes and were acknowledged with special hampers as tokens of appreciation and encouragement.
This initiative not only reflects the university’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in areas of quality education, responsible consumption, and youth empowerment, but also underscores the university’s mission in bridging knowledge with real-world community impact.
Well done!
