Three representatives from MMU namely Dr. Kavitha Balakrishnan, Dr. Lim Kah Boon and Ms. Lee Chai Har, took part in the International Erasmus+ Staff Week 2026 in Riga, Latvia, joining participants from universities and institutions across different countries to exchange perspectives on leadership, digital transformation and the future of higher education, in October 2026. This programme also was supported by the International Collaboration and Engagement (ICE).

Organised by the College of Business Administration, Latvia, the programme was held under the theme “The New Operating System: Leadership, Learning and Life in Transition”. It explored how higher education institutions can respond to changes driven by artificial intelligence (AI), digital technologies and evolving expectations of leadership and learning.

The programme featured keynote sessions, expert presentations and interactive workshops on AI and digital transformation, alongside discussions on leadership, resilience and emerging developments in higher education. These sessions provided opportunities for participants to share experiences and consider approaches to the challenges facing universities in a rapidly changing environment.

A key highlight was the international conference titled “Error 404: Old Models of Life and Business Not Found”, which brought together academics and industry experts to examine how AI is reshaping leadership, education, work and human development. Discussions explored the need to reconsider established approaches as technology continues to influence professional and academic environments.

Beyond the formal sessions, the Staff Week provided a platform for academics and professional staff to exchange teaching practices, share institutional experiences and explore potential areas of international cooperation. Discussions included opportunities for staff mobility, student exchanges, research collaboration and academic partnerships.

The programme also offered participants opportunities to experience Latvian culture through activities in Riga, adding a cultural dimension to the international exchange. MMU’s participation reflects its engagement with the wider higher education community and provides an opportunity for its representatives to bring back perspectives on emerging educational trends, international practices and the challenges facing universities in an increasingly digital and AI-driven world.
