MMU Press organised a two-day workshop titled Preparing High Impact and Visible Journals on 8 and 9 October 2026 at the Cyberjaya campus, bringing together Editors-in-Chief, Managing Editors and editorial teams from MMU’s Cyberjaya and Melaka campuses to discuss ways to improve the quality and international reach of the university’s scholarly journals.

The workshop was conducted by Dr. Handoko of Universitas Andalas, Indonesia, who serves as a Managing Editor of the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and Jurnal Arbitrer, a Scopus-indexed journal. Drawing on his experience in scholarly publishing and journal management, he shared insights into editorial practices, citation metrics, open-access publishing and the requirements of international indexing databases.

Participants explored key aspects of journal development, including peer review, research integrity, publication quality and discoverability. The sessions also covered the use of Open Journal Systems (OJS) to improve editorial workflows and journal management. Discussions allowed editorial teams to exchange experiences, address common challenges and consider approaches to improving their respective journals.

The workshop also provided a platform for MMU’s editorial teams to learn from international publishing practices and explore potential collaboration with Dr. Handoko in journal development and editorial management. All in all, the workshop is part of MMU Press’ efforts to improve its journals and make MMU research more visible to the wider academic community.
