Academics from Multimedia University (MMU) contributed to the Vietnam Festival of Creativity and Design (VFCD) through the Living Exhibition and festival programme, showcasing their creative works and expertise in curatorial practice and panel discussions, recently.
The Living Exhibition featured a selection of international creative works that underwent a double-blind peer-review process before being curated by Dr. Rachel Jahja from RMIT University and Dr. Roopesh Sitharan from MMU’s Faculty of Creative Multimedia (FCM). The exhibition provided a platform for diverse creative perspectives and practices within the international art and design community.
Among the MMU academics whose works were selected for the exhibition were Ms. Nadia Mahmud, Dean of FCM, Dr. Karolina Wojnowska Paterek and Mr. Norzaful Anuwar bin Najamuddin, all from FCM. The exhibition also featured works by Mr. Anwar Suhaimi and Mr. Ahmad Hafidzuddin Aziz from the Faculty of Cinematic Arts (FCA), reflecting the university’s range of creative expertise across multimedia and cinematic arts.
Beyond exhibiting their work, MMU academics also contributed to the festival’s programme. Dr. Roopesh Sitharan was invited to contribute his expertise as a curator of the Living Exhibition, while Mr. Yap Sau Bin was invited to moderate panel sessions, facilitating discussions among speakers and participants. Their involvement brought MMU’s expertise in creative practice, curation and critical dialogue into the wider festival programme.
The festival brought together creative practitioners, academics, organisers and audiences to exchange ideas on the relationship between creativity, culture and public participation. Discussions explored the role of creative festivals within Vietnam’s cultural landscape, including how they can respond to community needs and encourage public engagement. Festival organisers from different parts of the world also shared their experiences and perspectives on participatory approaches and the evolving relationship between festivals and their audiences.
MMU’s participation in VFCD provided an opportunity for its academics to present their work on an international platform and contribute to wider discussions on contemporary art, design and creative practice. The involvement of academics from FCM and FCA also highlighted the university’s interdisciplinary strengths and its continued engagement with the international creative community.
