The Faculty of Applied Communication (FAC) FAC engaged academic and industry experts in reviewing and enhancing its communication programmes through its 2026 External Examiner (EE) and Industrial Advisory Panel (IAP) engagement sessions held in September 2026.

The engagement covered the Bachelor in Communication (Honours) (Strategic Communication) and Diploma in Applied Communication (DAC) programmes, bringing together external academic examiners, industry practitioners, faculty members and students to discuss curriculum development, teaching and learning, assessment, student development and the skills expected in the communication profession.

For the Bachelor in Communication (Honours) (Strategic Communication), FAC engaged Associate Professor Dr. Bahtiar bin Mohamad from the Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB), Universiti Utara Malaysia, as External Examiner, and Mr. Abdul Latiff bin Puteh, Founder of White & Associates, as the Industrial Advisory Panel representative.

For the Diploma in Applied Communication, Prof. Madya Dr. Sabariah Mohamed Salleh from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, served as External Examiner, while Ms. Nurlina Hussin, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of inspiraComm Sdn Bhd, represented the Industrial Advisory Panel.

The engagement also included the Connect & Inspire Session, where selected students shared their learning experiences and perspectives directly with the external experts. The session gave students an opportunity to receive feedback from academic and industry professionals while gaining perspectives on the expectations and realities of the communication field.

This was followed by the Connect & Collaborate Session with FAC academic staff, where the external experts shared their observations and recommendations on programme content, teaching and learning practices, assessment and student development. The discussions also provided opportunities to consider how the programmes can remain aligned with developments in the communication industry and the changing expectations of employers.

The 2026 engagement brought together academic and industry perspectives at both programme and student levels, supporting FAC’s ongoing review of its programmes and keeping the curriculum relevant to the evolving communication profession.
