MMU Welcomes Minister of Science and Technology, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao to Explore STEM Collaboration

On 22 July 2026, MMU welcomed Hon. Baileng S. Mantawil, Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MOST BARMM), Philippines, and her delegation to the Cyberjaya campus as part of a benchmarking visit on STEM education in Malaysian universities.

The delegation was received by Vice President of Market Exploration, Engagement and Touchpoint (MEET), Prof. Ts. Dr. Lau Siong Hoe, who delivered the welcoming remarks and introduced MMU, highlighting the university’s academic excellence, research strengths, and commitment to producing industry-ready graduates. During the visit, Hon. Baileng S. Mantawil shared the ministry’s aspirations for advancing science, technology, and innovation in the Bangsamoro region.

Both parties also engaged in discussions on MMU’s STEM-related faculties and programme offerings, particularly in engineering, computing, and informatics, as well as the university’s research strengths and centres of excellence. The meeting provided a platform to exchange institutional experiences, discuss areas of mutual interest, and explore potential collaborations in higher education, research, innovation, and capacity building.

The visit, which was also attended by faculty deans and representatives, concluded on a positive note, with both parties expressing their interest in strengthening institutional ties and exploring collaborative initiatives that will contribute to the advancement of STEM education, research, and innovation in the region.
