On 1 July 2026, the Faculty of Management (FOM) hosted its Flea Market 2026 at the Cyberjaya campus, bringing together students, staff, and external vendors in support of a meaningful cause.
Held as a fundraising initiative for future FOM corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes, the one-day event featured more than 20 booths offering a variety of products, including pre-loved items, books, clothing, handcrafted products, desserts, coffee, snacks, and other unique merchandise. The event attracted participation from FOM students, staff from various MMU faculties, and external vendors, creating a lively marketplace that encouraged interaction, collaboration, and community engagement.
Beyond supporting future CSR initiatives, the flea market also encouraged entrepreneurial spirit among participants by providing opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs to showcase their products while promoting sustainable practices through the reuse and sale of pre-loved items. The initiative reflected FOM’s commitment to fostering meaningful engagement, supporting small businesses, and cultivating a culture of giving within the MMU community.
Complementing the flea market activities, an Industry Learning Partner (ILP) talk titled “Whisk, Work, Win: The Gula Cakery Success Story” was also organised, featuring Ms. Arieni Ritzal, CEO and Founder of Gula Cakery. She shared her entrepreneurial journey, from starting a home-based baking business to growing the brand into one of Malaysia’s recognised dessert companies with 19 outlets nationwide.
The session provided students with valuable insights into the realities of entrepreneurship, including overcoming challenges, building resilience, and developing the mindset needed to grow a successful business. This interactive session encouraged meaningful discussions as participants explored topics related to starting a business, navigating obstacles, and pursuing entrepreneurial aspirations.
The session concluded on a delightful note when Ms. Arieni treated participants to Gula Cakery’s signature Pavlova, allowing students to experience one of the desserts that contributed to the brand’s success. The sharing session successfully connected academic learning with real-world industry experience, inspiring students through the journey of a home-grown entrepreneur.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Azrena Mohd Noor, with the support of the organising team comprising Dr. Abby Ashraff Saprudin, Noor Shahaliza Othman, Dr. Nurul Nadia Nordin, Dr. Muhammad Nizam Zainuddin, Ms. Nur Syamimi Houd, Ms. Norzarina Md Yatim, Ms. Nor Hazleza Mohamad, Ms. Sharifah Ummu Naqiah Syed Shukran, Ms. Putri Nurul ‘Aaaina Rusli, and Mr. Zulkefly Yusup.
