On 8 June 2026, a group of students from the Foundation in Business programme visited Yayasan Tzu Chi, Melaka Branch as part of a community engagement initiative under the subject BPB1114 Fundamentals of Business Management, coordinated by Mdm Kerk Peck Hoon. Through the course, students are required to undertake a business project and donate 50% of their profits to charitable causes. The visit provided an opportunity for students to better understand the importance of social responsibility and the positive impact that collective efforts can have on the community.
Coinciding with the dumpling-making season in conjunction with the Dragon Boat Festival, the students joined volunteers in preparing dumplings for fundraising activities. They assisted in various tasks, including weighing ingredients, cleaning bamboo leaves, wrapping dumplings, and transporting the finished products for storage. The hands-on experience allowed students to appreciate the dedication and teamwork involved in community service initiatives while gaining a deeper understanding of volunteerism.
The students also visited an exhibition held in conjunction with Tzu Chi’s 60th anniversary, where they learned about the organisation’s humanitarian efforts and community outreach programmes. The visit reinforced the values of compassion, empathy, and social responsibility, while highlighting the importance of working together to create meaningful change. It also served as a reminder that future business leaders can play an important role in contributing to society beyond financial success.
