On 8 June 2026, the Faculty of Business (FOB), through its Banking and Finance Unit, collaborated with its strategic partner, CGS International Securities Malaysia, to organise the Financial Literacy Empowerment Day, a one-day programme aimed at enhancing students’ financial literacy and investment awareness.
The programme commenced with a welcoming speech by Dr. Siti Zakiah binti Melatu Samsi, FOB Dean, who highlighted the importance of financial literacy in equipping students with the knowledge and confidence to make informed financial decisions and prepare for their future financial well-being.
The event featured a series of insightful sharing sessions delivered by distinguished speakers from CGS International Securities Malaysia, namely Mr. Louis Teh Chin Siang, Group Head of Global Sales; Mr. Rushdan Nadzir, Group Head of Shariah Services; and Mr. Ryan Choong, Manager of Strategic Partnerships. The sessions covered key topics, including leadership, market outlook, Investment 101, and an introduction to the UP Application, Malaysia’s first platform offering fractional share trading directly on Bursa Malaysia. These discussions provided students with valuable exposure to financial markets, investment fundamentals, and emerging digital investment opportunities.
Following the sharing sessions, an interactive Investment Clinic was conducted, allowing students to engage directly with the speakers. Participants took the opportunity to ask questions related to investment strategies, financial planning, and the registration process for the UP Application, making the session highly interactive and insightful.
The Financial Literacy Empowerment Day successfully created a dynamic learning platform that bridged academic knowledge with industry experience, enhancing students’ understanding of financial markets and investment opportunities while fostering greater confidence in their readiness to begin their investment journey.
The event was attended by more than 100 students, along with Mdm Hazlaili Binti Hashim, Head of the Department of Banking and Finance; Mdm Shadia Binti Suhaimi, Programme Coordinator for the Banking and Finance Unit; and banking and finance lecturers, reflecting strong participation from both students and academic staff.
