
On 10 June 2026, approximately 100 engineering undergraduate students participated in the FET Alumni Guest Lecture Session titled “From Campus to Corporate World: A Survival Guide (Tips) for Graduates”, featuring Mr. Tan Yet Hong, a distinguished FET alumnus and accomplished professional in the semiconductor industry. A native of Georgetown, Penang, Mr. Tan graduated from FET with a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.) in Electronics in 2002. With more than two decades of industry experience, he currently serves in Product Marketing at Micron Technology in Idaho, United States.
During the session, Mr. Tan shared his inspiring journey from campus life to the global corporate arena, offering valuable insights drawn from his experience in R&D engineering, sales operations, and product marketing. He emphasised the importance of continuous learning, networking, adaptability, and maintaining a growth mindset in navigating an ever-evolving industry landscape. He also encouraged students to seize internship opportunities, highlighting that such experiences can often pave the way for future employment and career advancement.
The session was highly interactive and generated strong engagement. Adding a personal touch, Mr. Tan invited questions from the students and rewarded selected participants with tokens of appreciation. He also brought along study materials from his student days, offering his juniors a unique glimpse into the academic experiences that shaped his journey. Many students continued to seek further advice from the speaker even after the formal session had concluded. Mr. Tan’s inspiring story and practical guidance left a lasting impression, motivating the engineering students to pursue their professional aspirations and strive to become future leaders in the engineering profession.
