MMU through the International Collaboration and Engagement (ICE) strengthened its international engagements through discussions with the University of Plymouth and a courtesy visit by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), reflecting its ongoing efforts to enhance global collaboration and opportunities for students and staff.

On 4 May 2026, MMU met with the University of Plymouth to explore expanding existing collaborations into creative disciplines. The discussion was led by Dr. Gianni Corino, Associate Professor in Interactive Media at the School of Art, Design and Architecture. Building on current articulation agreements with the Faculty of Computing and Informatics (FCI) and the Faculty of Information Science and Technology (FIST), both institutions discussed extending pathways to include the Faculty of Creative Multimedia (FCM) and the Faculty of Cinematic Arts (FCA).

The conversation covered potential articulation pathways in games design, immersive media, animation, and film. Both parties also explored opportunities under the CODEX practice-driven interdisciplinary PhD programme, as well as possible collaborations in staff and student mobility, short-term programmes, joint research, and participation in conferences and creative industry events.

Earlier, on 28 April 2026, MMU received a courtesy visit from DAAD representatives, Dr. Guido Schnieders, Regional Director, and Ms. Lidya Natalie. The session provided an overview of DAAD’s role and explored potential collaboration with MMU and its network of German partner universities.

Discussions included the possibility of extending scholarship opportunities to MMU students and organising a virtual engagement session to introduce study and research opportunities in Germany. Dr. Guido also encouraged students to consider further studies in Germany, highlighting the value of international exposure.

The session was led by Prof. Ooi Chee Pun, Dean of the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence and Engineering, together with representatives from the International Collaboration and Engagement (ICE) team. Special thanks were extended to Prof. Ong Duu Sheng for coordinating the visit. These engagements mark a positive step in strengthening MMU’s international network while creating more pathways for academic collaboration and global exposure.
