The Center of Excellence (COE) – Business Innovation and Communication (BIC), under the Center of Management and Marketing Innovation (CMMI), successfully organised its final research sharing session for 2025 titled “Hijacked Journals – What They Are and How to Avoid Them” on 10 March 2025 (Tuesday).
Organised by Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Lilian Anthonysamy, Chairperson of CMMI, and supported by Dr. Yeo Sook Fern, Director of COE–BIC, together with Dr. Stany, Co-Chair of CMMI, the session attracted researchers, postgraduate students, and academic staff from MMU. The talk forms part of CMMI’s ongoing initiative to promote high-quality research and strengthen publishing competencies, particularly among early-career researchers and postgraduate students at Multimedia University (MMU).
The session was delivered by Associate Professor Dr. Francis Chuah Chin Wei, an experienced scholar and journal reviewer. During the session, Dr. Francis Chuah shared insights into the growing issue of hijacked journals in academic publishing, explaining how fraudulent websites impersonate legitimate journals to deceive researchers into submitting manuscripts and paying publication fees. He highlighted key warning signs such as suspicious submission emails, fake journal websites, and misleading indexing claims, and provided practical strategies to verify legitimate journals through official publisher sites and trusted indexing databases.
The research sharing session reinforces CMMI’s commitment to cultivating a vibrant and research-driven academic community while promoting responsible and ethical publishing practices.
