MMU Grüne Welt has successfully concluded its participation in the Shell Eco-marathon Qatar 2026, recently held in Lusail International Circuit, Doha, Qatar on 21-25 January 2026, marking another significant milestone for the team in advancing sustainable mobility innovation.

Representing MMU and Malaysia, the team comprised mainly engineering students from Mechanical Engineering and Robotics & Automation Engineering programme, guided by faculty advisors Dr. Lim Boon Kian, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Liew Kia Wai, and Dr. Lim Chee Siong. Over months of preparation, the team worked intensively to enhance their battery-electric prototype vehicle, focusing on lightweight engineering, system reliability, aerodynamic efficiency, and energy management performance to meet the competition’s demanding standards.

Shell Eco-marathon continues to be one of the world’s premier student engineering competitions, gathering teams from all over the world to design, build, and drive ultra-energy-efficient vehicles. As in previous competitions, teams were required to pass rigorous technical and safety inspections before qualifying to run on track, ensuring vehicles meet international safety and engineering benchmarks.

During the Qatar competition, MMU Grüne Welt was one of the only 19 out of 33 teams in the battery-electric prototype category completed inspection requirements and demonstrated consistent on-track performance despite challenging weather and track conditions. The team achieved the best on-track result of 304 km/kWh, continuing its legacy by securing 1st place among Malaysian teams and ranking 7th in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions – A historic milestone as the team sets its best-ever mileage record!

The team would like to express its heartfelt appreciation to MMU, MMU, the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET), Telekom Malaysia (TM), Student Lifestyle and Experience (STyLE), Yayasan Universiti Multimedia (YUM), the Engineering Society Melaka Campus, as well as our individual and industry partners – Mr. Wong Chee Chai, Conquest Electronics, Infineon Technologies, Thunder Print, Yeely Copier, Millennium Chocolate Products, PT. MVANCE Indo Pratama, Kersani Food and RYOMA Laser Cutting Industry for their invaluable contribution and support. Special thanks are also extended to Shell Malaysia and the Malaysian Youth in Qatar (Qampung) for their exceptional hospitality and assistance.

With the Qatar event concluded, MMU Grüne Welt now looks forward to applying lessons learned toward future improvements, continuing its mission to push the boundaries of energy-efficient vehicle engineering while proudly representing MMU and Malaysia on the international stage.

Congratulations, MMU Grüne Welt!
