The Faculty of Business (FOB) successfully organised a series of six industrial talks featuring distinguished MMU alumni from diverse professional backgrounds. These sessions, held across January 2026 at the MMU Melaka Campus, provided students with valuable industry exposure and practical insights beyond the classroom.
The series began with Henry Tee (Class of 2024) and Alvin Pong Kai Sun (Class of 2025), freelance photographers from The Shutter Studio, who delivered an engaging talk titled “Beyond the Lens: My Journey as a Photographer – Skills, Stories & Future Trends.” They shared their creative journeys, highlighting the realities of freelance work, visual storytelling, and emerging trends in the photography industry.
Students were later introduced to the corporate sales landscape by Isaac Lee (Class of 2008), Head of Modern Trade at Mondelez International. His session explored the fundamentals of sales, the sales-led growth model, and career opportunities in the field, offering students a structured understanding of how sales and marketing strategies drive business performance.
Alan Lai (Class of 2011), Agency Leader at GT Nelson Realty Sdn Bhd, shared his career transition and leadership journey within the real estate industry. His talk emphasised adaptability, communication skills, and resilience as key factors for long-term career development.
From the legal profession, Chua Yong Yi (Class of 2019), Senior Lawyer at Andrew & Associates, delivered a meaningful session titled “How to Build Your Future Now: Life Skills Beyond the Classroom.” He encouraged students to cultivate discipline, ethical awareness, and critical thinking early in their careers.
The series also featured Nicole Chin Wan Yu (Class of 2024), a self-employed Social Media Content Creator and Personal Trainer, who shared her experiences in building a personal brand and sustaining a self-driven career. Her session offered students a refreshing perspective on alternative and digital career pathways.
Concluding the series, Calvin Chow (Class of 2009), Sales Manager at KNS Kulicke and Soffa, presented “From Classroom to Cleanroom to Field Sales,” illustrating how an engineering background can evolve into a successful career in the semiconductor sales industry.
All six industrial talks were organized as part of a project-based assignment under the subject Introduction to Event Management for students from the Diploma in Digital Business, guided by their lecturer, Mr. Tai Hen Toong. Students were responsible for the full planning and execution of the events, including speaker engagement, coordination, and on-site management.
The objective of the project was to enhance students’ soft skills and practical competencies that cannot be fully acquired through textbooks alone. With all speakers being MMU alumni, the sessions offered authentic insights into workplace realities and career progression, making the entire industrial talk series a highly fruitful and impactful learning experience for everyone involved.
