More than 20 participants, including Chief Editors, Managing Editors, Support Editors, and representatives from MMU Press, attended a two-day workshop titled “Strategies for Building High-Impact and High-Visibility Journals” held at the Cyberjaya campus from 15 to 16 October 2025.
Organised by MMU Press, the sessions were conducted by Dr. Ikhwan Arief, Managing Editor and Indonesian Ambassador for the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). Dr. Ikhwan is also the Editor of Jurnal Optimasi Sistem Industri (JOSI), a journal indexed in Scopus and Sinta.
Throughout the workshop, Dr. Ikhwan facilitated engaging discussions and interactive sessions covering key topics such as attracting and maintaining high-quality manuscripts, increasing journal visibility through social media platforms, and maximising the use of Open Journal Systems (OJS). Participants also took part in hands-on activities that guided them in preparing their journals for inclusion in DOAJ, Scopus, and Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI), using readiness checklists and walkthroughs of the submission processes.
Overall, the workshop provided participants with valuable insights into international publishing practices and practical strategies for enhancing the quality, visibility, and discoverability of their journals through Search Engine Optimization (SEO). This initiative by MMU Press reflects its strong commitment to developing journals that meet global standards in terms of impact, visibility, and editorial excellence, ultimately strengthening their online presence.
